A dirty pattern or a black line
appears on the printouts.
≥There are scratches on the drum unit. Replace the drum unit
(p. 113–115).
Print quality
≥Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print on.
Try turning the paper over.
≥You may have used paper with a cotton and/or fibre content that is
over 25%, such as letterhead or resume paper.
≥The remaining toner is low. Replace the toner cartridge
(p. 113–115).
Cause & RemedyProblem
The printing quality is poor.
The printing is faint.
Fax - receiving
≥The receive mode is set to the TEL mode. Set to the FAX ONLY or
TEL/FAX mode.
≥The time taken to answer a call is too long. Decrease the number
of rings (p. 58, 63).
≥The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode to the TEL
mode.
≥The sender transmitted a faint document. Ask them to transmit a
clearer copy of the document.
Cause & RemedyProblem
I cannot receive documents
automatically.
The display shows
“CONNECTING.....” but faxes are not
received.
The recording image is faint.
Receive mode
≥If you want to set the FAX ONLY or TEL/FAX mode:
—Select the desired mode using feature #77 (p. 62), and
—Press (AUTO\ANSWER) to turn on the AUTO ANSWER light.
≥If you want to set the TEL mode:
—Press (AUTO\ANSWER) to turn off the AUTO ANSWER light.
Cause & RemedyProblem
I cannot select the desired receive
mode.
≥You cannot make a copy during programming. Make the copy after
programming or stop the programming.
≥The white roller is dirty. Clean it (p. 112).
The unit does not make a copy.
White lines or black lines appear on
the copied document.
