If your cable TV box or satellite receiver has an OPTICAL OUT
terminal you can connect with this unit’s OPTICAL IN terminal to
enjoy digital audio including multi-channel Dolby Digital. Refer to
your cable TV box or satellite receiver’s operating instructions for
details.
[Note]
You cannot record digital audio received using the optical
connection. Make certain to also connect to the L1 AUDIO/VIDEO
terminals when using the OPTICAL IN terminal connection.
Make the following connections in combination with connections [A]
or [B] on the previous page.
1 Press [INPUT SELECT] to select “L1”.
You can select the input channel by pressing [W X CH].
2 Press [SHIFT]i[L1/OPT] to select
audio input.
L1 ANALOG (factory preset): Audio input into the L1 AUDIO
f terminals is output to the
v speakers.
L1 OPT: Audio input into the L1 OPTICAL IN terminal is
output to the speakers.
∫ Audio reception setting
While “L1 OPT” is displayed on the unit’s display
Press and hold [SHIFT]r[L1/OPT].
L1 AUTO (factory preset): When receiving Dolby Digital and PCM

L1 PCM FIX: When receiving only PCM audio
∫ When receiving Dolby Digital Dual Mono signals
You can change the audio mode.
Press [SHIFT]r[AUDIO].

∫ Dynamic range compression
You can change this setting to listen to Dolby Digital sound at low
volume (such as late at night) and maintain audio clarity. It reduces
the peak level in loud scenes without affecting the sound field.
Press and hold for about 2 seconds
[SHIFT]r[AUDIO].
A. DR COMP OFF (factory preset): The original dynamic range.
l;
l DR COMP STD: The level recommended for household viewing.
l;
a- DR COMP MAX: The maximum allowable compression
(recommended for night viewing).
∫ Recording audio from discs or television
broadcasts to a tape deck
1 Discs: Press [DVD] to select “DVD/CD” as the source.
Television broadcasts: Press [W X CH] to select the channel.
2 Start recording and play.
Refer to the manual of the other unit for details.
[Note]
FM/AM broadcasts and audio from the L1 OPTICAL IN terminal are
not output through the AUDIO OUT terminals.
∫ To playback audio from a tape deck, etc.,
through this unit’s speakers
1 Press [DVD] to select “DVD/CD” as the source.
2 Press [INPUT SELECT] to select “L1” or “L3”.
3 Start play.
