• To make a portrait copy, set the original in portrait direction. To make a landscape copy, set the original in
landscape direction.
3. Close the document cover.

• Confirm that there are no documents in the automatic document feeder. (

• Place the original onto the scanner glass gently. To avoid malfunction, do not press down too firmly.
• If the original is a book thicker than 15 mm, do not close the document cover.
• Confirm that any ink, paste or correction fluid has dried completely, as this may mark the scanner glass.
3.3.2 Using the automatic document feeder
Important
• Confirm that there are no documents on the scanner glass.
• Confirm that any ink, paste or correction fluid has dried completely.
• Remove clips, staples or other fasteners.
1. Open the document tray ( ) and the document sub tray ( ).
• To open the document sub tray, press its centre part (
).
2. Insert the document (up to 75 sheets) FACE UP into the feeder until a single beep is heard.
• To make a portrait copy, set the original in portrait direction. To make a landscape copy, set the original in
landscape direction.
• Adjust the width of the document guides ( ) to fit the actual size of the document.
Note
• Do not insert the following types of documents (Make a copy of the document using the scanner glass and
set the copy instead.):
– Chemically treated paper such as carbon or carbonless duplicating paper
– Electrostatically charged paper
– Badly curled, creased or torn paper
– Paper with a coated surface
– Paper with printing on the opposite side that can be seen through the other side, such as newsprint
