&hoosing the correct container is a very
important factor in deciding the success or
faiOure of your cooking.
Testing Dishes for Suitability
:hen unsure that a cooking
con tainer is suitabOe for use in your
microwave, check by the foOOow ing test
1. FiOO a microwave safe measur ing Mug
with 00 mO ô pt coOd water.
. POace it on the turntabOe aOong side the
dish to be tested. ,f the dish you
are testing is a Oarge dish, then stand
the measur ing Mug on top of the empty
dish.
. +eat on +,G+ power for 1 minute.
Result
,f the dish is suitabOe for micro waving, it
wiOO remain cooO, whiOst the water in the Mug
wiOO begin to feeO warm. ,f the testing dish
feeOs warm, do not use as it is obvious Oy
absorbing microwave energy.
Note
This test does not appOy to pOastic or metaO
based con tainers e.g. /e &reuset styOe
dishes, which shouOd not be used as they
are cast iron covered with enameO.
Oven glass
Everyday gOass that is heat
resistant e.g. Pyre[, is ideaO
for Microwave cooking.
'o not use deOicate gOass or
Oead crystaO which may crack
or arc.
China and ceramic
Everyday gOazed china,
porceOain or ceramic pOates,
bowOs, mugs and cups can be
used if they are heat resis tant.
Fine bone china shouOd onOy
be used for reheating for short
periods. 'o not use dishes with
a metaO rim or pattern. 'o not
use Mugs or mugs with gOued
handOes, since the gOue can
meOt.
Pottery, earthenware,
stoneware
,f compOeteOy gOazed, these
dishes are suitabOe. 'o not use
if partiaOOy gOazed or ungOazed,
since they are abOe to absorb
water which in turn absorbs
microwave energy, making the
container very hot and sOows
down the cooking of food.
Foil/metal containers
NEVER ATTEMPT TO COOK
IN FOI/ OR META/
con tai ners on Microwave onOy
as the microwaves cannot
pass through and the food wiOO
not heat evenOy, it may aOso
damage your oven.
